Description: Background color is black. Fore-wing with a red narrow median band with yellow edges proximally extending from costa to area Cu2. Well developed red dennis (V-shaped distally in the cell). Hind-wing with red horizontal bar crossing the cell and rays from anal angle to area M1.
Similar species: Heliconius Melpomene Melpomene f.karschi (for the fore-wing median band).
Similar to H. Melpomene Madeira: Heliconius Demeter Turneri, Heliconius Xanthocles Paraplesius.
